Handmaids on the Horizon

Apparently, for 84-year-old Margaret Atwood, enough isn’t yet enough. Eighteen poetry books, eleven non-fiction, eighteen novels, eight children’s books, and more aren’t enough.

Numerous awards aren’t enough.

Fame isn’t enough.

She wants us to read, listen, and hear her voice.

And think.

And act.

She offers another story, six minutes long, and serves as her own narrator.

Her newest effort might be called an animated monologue.

Consider it a prequel of The Handmaid’s Tale, a prelude or run-up to it. Of course, maybe it is something else altogether.

Maybe, for her, enough is now enough.

  1. Thank you for sharing this very needed message, Dr. Stein! There are those that will say this is hyperbole and that we’re overreacting. They are either not paying enough attention, and truly need to see & heed this message, or are in support of the chaos agents and need to be beaten at the ballot box. Vote like your life depends on it!

  2. The YouTube link appears to be broken Dr. Stein. I’d love to hear her new monologue!

    • If you can’t get there through the link, you should succeed by searching YouTube with the words, Margaret Atwood Democracy 2024.

  3. Thank you so much for sharing, this is a keeper of a video. Atwood is brilliant and the video, her words and narration are impossible to ignore. ❤️

  4. Thanks, Vicki. Your words hit the bullseye.

  5. Thanks so much for this much needed and exquisitely done primer on Democracy and the threats to her.

Alas, at the risk of appearing stupid, I don’t understand the punchline “Call the bluff”.

Thanks, as always, for being a voice of reason and decency, Gerald.

  6. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am that you shared this video Dr. Stein. I stumbled upon Margaret Atwood and The Handmaids Tale shortly after it was published and she, plus her writing and beliefs, became a point of light for my own viewpoints and beliefs. This video is brilliant and you have given me reason to continue to believe in the power of one woman’s voice…plus the most amazing beginning to my day…better than I have had in a long, long time 🙂 Inspiration fills me right now!

  7. Read. Listen. Think. Act. That says it all.

  8. My only small contribution, Crystal, but am glad it fits. Thank you!

  9. Thanks for sharing, Dr. Stein. We the people of the USA are walking blindly in the dark.
